The Fair Grove High School Student Council (STUCO) is already at work planning, organizing, and bringing school spirit to the students and facility of Fair Grove and the citizens within the community as a whole.
STUCO, run by teacher sponsor Micheal Van Cleave, is a club at Fair Grove High School where selected students are offered the opportunity to show leadership, plan school events, help the community, and overall bring school spirit to anyone in or out of the Fair Grove’s doors. VanCleave explained, “Our top priorities are to raise school spirit within the student body, and present our school to the community in a positive manner.”
Even though bringing school spirit is one of the main priorities for STUCO, the importance behind the club goes much deeper.
Carson Trussell (12), the senior class president, described how the club allows students to have a voice in what’s going on in their school, “STUCO is important because it acts as the bridge between students and administration. It provides opportunities for leadership, promotes school spirit, and helps foster a sense of community. When done right, STUCO can make sure everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.”
While STUCO is primarily a club focused on having an impact on the community, that doesn’t necessarily mean that members of the club can’t have a personal connection and impact from the work done within.
Brylee Mallard, the Student Body Vice President, explained how being a member of STUCO has impacted her on a personal level, “I would say STUCO helps to create a better school environment and creates a reason to look forward to school that wouldn’t be there otherwise. I know for me STUCO gives opportunities to grow in leadership as well as my communication skills.”
Cinch Dowling (10), the sophomore class president, added, “STUCO has definitely helped me grow as a leader and taught me how to work with others and stay organized. For the school, STUCO helps keep everyone connected and involved. Whether it’s through spirit weeks, dances, or fundraisers, we try to bring energy and positivity into the school.”
STUCO has always been a club about originating and planning events for the school, but at its core STUCO can be a way for students to be heard and have a voice in the events surrounding them every single day. Trussell stated, “…I also want to ensure more students feel directly involved in the decision-making process by creating new opportunities for engagement and feedback.”
