Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced their engagement on August 26, 2025. There are a variety of opinions about them throughout the students and staff at Fair Grove Schools.
Shelley Thornton, the Spanish teacher at Fair Grove Schools, expressed her admiration for Taylor Swift, “I love Taylor Swift. I love her music and writing style, and I really admire the way she takes ownership of every aspect of her career and the work she produces.”
Thornton continued, “She is also an expert in the music business, has spearheaded several major industry changes by taking action on her own, knows how to create a brand that sells, and has managed to build a fan base that has been loyal to her for the duration of her career– even sometimes buying multiple versions of the same album to show their support.”
Others aren’t too invested with her. Elliott Ackerson (11) stated, “I personally do not like Taylor Swift. I think she is overrated and needs to retire.”
Travis Kelce also has varying opinions about him. Thornton explained, “I have been a Travis Kelce fan for years, because I also follow the Chiefs. I love that he embraces who he is and doesn’t worry very much about what people think of him…He cares about his family and teammates and takes ownership of his mistakes.”
Lindsay Martin, a science teacher and track coach at Fair Grove Schools, disagreed, “I think he is a cocky, self-absorbed celebrity.”
In terms of their relationship and engagement, Martin expressed how she doesn’t have a opinion,“It doesn’t really matter to me! Go them.” She continued, “It (the engagement) kinda shut the door, in a way, in regards to their relationship being ‘fake’.”
Thornton expressed her view on the couple, “I wasn’t sure about this pairing at first, but they seem to be really great together. It is nice to see Taylor with someone who isn’t intimidated by her celebrity…She needed someone who would celebrate and support her and make life lighter and happier for her, and I think he does that. It is nice to see her loved well.”
The pairs’ engagement was discovered by many through social media. Ackerson explained, “I found out about it on TikTok.”
Thornton discovered the news through other people, “I found out about their engagement when roughly one million friends and family members saw the announcement during the school day and sent me messages, screenshots, and memes to inform me.”
There is no set date for Swift’s and Kelce’s wedding, so for now they are still in their engagement.
