Fair Grove Middle School is filled with excitement as the Student Council (STUCO) kicks off another year with leadership. The seventh and eigth grade group works hard to bring school spirit, fun events, and leadership opportunities to students all year long.
STUCO plans spirit weeks, organizes middle school dances, and is behind many activities that make the school enjoyable and memorable.
STUCO meets every day during advisory to brainstorm new ideas, plan out event details, and make sure every event runs smoothly. Martin added that STUCO’s intention is to show leadership and represent good character for the other middle school students.
Assemblies are one highlight of STUCO and play a huge part in the role that student council takes on. STUCO often gets the crowd fired up and cheering by leading chants and playing fun games that get everyone involved.
Addy Miller (8) shared that her favorite thing about assemblies is, “…to make the environment hype.” Many students said that assemblies are the moments they will remember and cherish most when looking back on middle school.
Aside from assemblies, STUCO also decorates the hallways, celebrates and recognizes holidays, and finds ways to encourage classmates. Every project is done with the goal of making the middle school a fun and welcoming place.
One of the council’s favorite events to host is Fright Night, a spooky hallway that is transformed during the Halloween season and other fun activites. Members decorate the halls with cobwebs, lights, and creepy surprises to give students a thrilling experience.
Claire Otterness (7) said, “There are so many factors that go into planning it so when the event happens you feel your hard work has paid off.” The Haunted Hallway has quickly become a tradition that students look forward to every fall.
For the seventh and eigth graders involved, it’s a chance to be strong leaders while also having fun with their classmates. Madi Evans (8) explained, “Sometimes it can be better to give than to get and leadership is important.”
Middle school STUCO is made up of students from seventh and eigth grade who were chosen to represent their school. For the members involved, it’s a chance to develop leadership skills while also having fun with classmates. With energy, creativity and a big heart for their school, the Fair Grove Middle School Student Council is ready to make this year the best one yet.
