The Fair Grove High School Cheer Team has been working since the beginning of summer to prepare for Regionals. The team placed 2nd, earning a bid to the state competition on November 1st.
Caydence Drake (10) stated, “We performed very well! We only had one stunt bobble (it was supposed to be an extension, and one foot fell to prep).”
The team started practicing for their competition in July. Drake stated, “After learning the choreography over two days during the summer, it took the team about six to seven weeks to perfect their routine.”
Lizzy Taylor (12) explained, “We learned the whole routine over the summer, and we have been working every week to clean it.” The team was just 0.003 points shy of the top spot, but still earned a perfect score in their routine. The only points the team lost was in the difficulty category.
As they head into the state competition, the team is focused on fine-tuning their routine. Julia Akin (9) stated, “We are just changing a few stunts to get a higher execution.”
The team has not only worked on their routine, but also their connection. Maryah Wisely (10) stated, “Having a strong connection also goes into the success of being a strong and powerful cheer team. When we have stronger connections, it helps us be strong in times of need and more of a bond”.
Strong bonds play a significant role, but so does the atmosphere and the energy of the team. Desiree Pollock (12) states that “It’s very energetic. We dance before we go on, and we are just super high energy, and our coach also plays a role in the high energy and keeping it positive before we even step on the floor.”
The Fair Grove High School cheer team will perform at the University of Missouri on November 1st. There is a sign up sheet to take a pep bus to the competition that is available for all high school students. The minimum number is 25 students and every student who rides the pep bus will get free admission to the competition.
