The Fair Grove High School recently made available Homework Academy, an after school program designed to allow extra time and need for students’ schoolwork for high school students in hopes of providing more additional academic support outside of school hours.
Homework Academy, run by a number of teachers at Fair Grove High School, is an after school program designed to help students complete homework, catch up on assignments or get additional help on assignments students may be struggling with.
Randie Roepke, the Fair Grove High School Principal explained why Administration decided to make homework academy available to high school students, “Administration introduced Homework Academy to high school students in response to a growing need for academic support outside of the regular school day.”
Roepke continued, “Homework Academy offers a dedicated space where they can receive help, catch up on assignments, and stay on track academically. It’s designed to give students a structured environment with access to teachers, resources, and time they may not have at home.”
Homework Academy prioritizes having additional time after school for a student along with the high school advisory period.
Susanne Feldman, the Fair Grove Algebra 1, Pre Algebra and Calculus teacher described the further benefits of homework academy, “An advisory class can have 15 or more students in it, sometimes students are quiet and working, but if others are done with their work, the noise level and be elevated and hard to focus on work…After school, the attendance for Homework Academy is much lower, so it’s more of a one-on-one or one-on-two situation where students are getting much more of my undivided attention.”
Homework Academy’s benefits can go deeper, as the one-on-one attention can further help a student understand missing or current assignments.
Payton Holliday (10), a student attending Feldman’s homework academy explained, “Homework Academy helped me because it helps me to understand how to do the homework I was missing…it helps a lot especially when you’re struggling really badly and can’t focus. It helps to be one on one working with the teachers and they can guide you individually and at your own pace.”
Homework Academy is a program aimed at helping students in any way possible no matter the problem. Roepke stated, “Homework Academy is important because it provides consistent, reliable academic support. Whether students are struggling with a subject, need help staying organized, or simply want a quiet space to focus, Homework Academy meets those needs.”
