Soccer Season Comes to a Close With 15-6 Record

Fair Grove played the first round of districts on Monday, October 27 at Logan-Rogersville High School. The team lost to Clinton 0-4. Districts were both Monday and Tuesday. Fair Grove was seeded in Class 2, District 11 with Clinton, Logan-Rogersville, and Springfield Catholic. Fair Grove played Clinton the first round of districts on Monday. Tristan Salkil said, “…I believe we played the best we could.” Preston Padgett added, “I think we played well…things just weren’t going our way.”

The boys soccer team was over .500 this year, having a winning record of 15-6. The team won some big games this season including wins against Laquey (2-1 and 1-0)  and  Lebanon (3-2) . This season, the team will graduate six seniors, Preston Padgett, Austin Newman, Nick Andrews, Anthony Campanelli, Jon Bledsoe, and Alex Schneider. Mason Kesterson says he will miss the seniors’ leadership and calmness. Padgett was the leading scorer with 29 goals this season. Padgett adds, “I’m going to miss always laughing and hanging out with the guys. We always had fun together.”

Fair Grove soccer has come a long way since it the school got a team. Coming from a 3-8-1 record in 2011 to a 15-6 record, setting a new single season win tally for the Eagles. Freshman Sebastion Newkirk, also had a part in the winning season scoring 19 goals this season. Also, Evan Fullerton (10) had to fill a big shoes to fill by becoming the team’s new goalie. The underclassmen stepped up this year even though it was some players first year such as Fullerton. Kyle Cavanaugh said that the underclassmen really helped the team out in the team’s accomplishments. Mason Kesterson added that he felt this season went exceptionally well for them. The team will have a strong group of returners for the next season including Kyle Cavanaugh, Brandon Hart, Tristan Salkil, Parker Miller, Mason Kesterson, Dylan Appleton, Evan Fullerton, Elias Morelan, Jaycob Kirtlink, Sebastian Newkirk, Brian Carroll, Ryan Padgett, and Bryan Hart.
