Volleyball Season Comes to a Close
November 25, 2014
On October 21 the volleyball team ended their 2014 season in the district championship game against Strafford. To play in the championship game, the girls first defeated Pleasant Hope 2-0, and Skyline 2-1, before advancing on to play Strafford. Even though the girls did not come out with a win, Senior Lydia Page comments, “I feel like this season went well. We exceeded people’s expectations.” Coach Peck mentioned that even though they lost seven seniors last year, they still did well this year, ending with a final record of 25-7.
The Lady Eagles yet again were able to accomplish their goal of being conference champs. Doing this the girls beat Strafford, Stockton, Ash Grove, Marionville, and Pleasant Hope. Coach Peck mentions, “A goal the girls had was to make memories. And I think they did that.” Senior Hallie Merisotes explains, “I’m always going to miss my team. For all four years of volleyball I was blessed with such an amazing, talented, and caring team.” This year, Junior Haley Stallings made unanimous 1st team all-conference, all district 1st team, all region 1st team and also all state team honorable mention. Jorden Stacey also made unanimous 1st team all-conference, all district 1st team, all region 1st team, and 1st team all-state. Sophomore Victoria Fishback made 1st team all district, while also being an all region honorable mention. Emily Derrick made all-conference 2nd team, and Senior Lydia Page wraps it up with all district 2nd team.
To prepare for next year, Coach Peck had a meeting with the juniors on October 22. Next year, the Lady Eagles will return with many juniors from this years team, including Haley Stallings, Jorden Stacey, Skylar Kensinger, Emily Derrick, Kelly Oplotnik, Shea Wallace, Cierra Lenox, Serra Wall, and Makenna Hill. She is already looking ahead and working with the girls on leadership and teamwork skills. In between seasons, most of the girls will participate in club volleyball to stay in shape for next season.
