Boys Basketball Strives for a Successful Season
December 1, 2014
Putting in numerous hours before and after school the Fair Grove Eagles basketball team is looking to accomplish many goals for the 2014-15 season. Coach Tim Brown shares, “We have done a lot of camps and shoot outs over the summer. Guys that do not play fall sports have had preseason.” Brown adds that in order for a successful season the team will have to continue to get more consistent and mature throughout the season.
From last year the team has lost a vital member to the team, Jayden Happel. Zane McCurry, a senior starter says, “This season we will be missing Jayden Happel. He was a big scorer and it will be hard to replace him.” McCurry will be expected to lead the team this year and be a key factor in the eagle’s success.
Brown explains, “We need Zane to be our senior leader. We are very fortunate to have seniors that always step up. We also have a cast of guys that are able to help Zane lead by committee.” McCurry also shares that he will be looking to junior, Mason Kesterson, to assist him in leading the team since he is the varsity point guard.
The Eagles have set many goals this season and according to McCurry the team will be striving to improve their press breaker this season. He shares, “Now that teams know we are good they will focus on pressing us. We struggled at times to get the ball down the floor and we need to improve in this area.” Along with working on their press breaker Kesterson states that the team also needs to work on their teamwork and just being able to trust each other.
Friday November 15th the Eagles will have an opportunity to display what they have worked on all offseason at their jamboree. The jamboree will be held at Ozark and will start at 7 pm. Sophomore starter, Garrett Kesterson added, “We get to face bigger schools which prepares us for our conference.” Tuesday the 25th will be the Eagles first game. This game will be played at Cassville and the freshmen game will start at 5 with jv and varsity to follow.
