Team Managers Help Keep Teams Organized

The boys and girls basketball teams both feature managers to help out with the coaches during their respective seasons. These managers do a list of tasks and objectives to help the team and coaches out. For the girls’ team there are three total managers, of whom include: Junior, Emilie Armstrong, who is in charge of in-game stats and keeping track of stats using an iPad for both the Lady Eagles and their opponents. Freshman, Bailey Chandler, helps out Emilie with stats, and keeps track of the game when it gets fast paced, Bailey also helps run the clock at practice and keeps the team on schedule. Sophomore Baylee Beckley helps the team during water breaks, providing the team with water during timeouts for both the JV and Varsity players.
Armstrong says that, “On the iPad I track the entire game, for example: Our team shoots the ball. I track the location of the shot, if it is made or missed, and who got the rebound. I also keep track of free throws, fouls, turnovers, rebounds, jump balls, timeouts and any violations committed. I have my trusty, Bailey Chandler by my side to tell me what happened on any missed plays. She is a big asset to the team.” Lady Eagles’ Head Coach Jennifer Talbert adds that, “The benefit to having managers is that they help keep us organized. There are many areas that go into practices and games and it’s great to have them there to help us out.”
“My favorite part of being a part of the team is, being able to bond with all of the players as if I was one of the players. They treat me as if I am a teammate and I really enjoy their company. Another part I like is the music that plays in the background, dancing with Bailey during timeouts makes it fun. I really enjoy being a part of the team,” Adds Armstrong.
For the boys’ side, juniors Haley Stallings and Emily Derrick are the team’s only two managers, with both being statisticians for the team. Boys’ head coach Tim Brown commented that, “Managers and statisticians are very helpful to the program. They help with the official book that records our stats and points, fouls, etc. They also help with the sign out sheet at the end of games to see who is riding with their parents.”
Other teams such as volleyball, boys and girls soccer, and softball sometimes have managers, often carrying out the same tasks for their respective coaches as the mentioned basketball managers above.
