Boys Starting to Hit Mid-Season form at Blue and Gold Tournament

The boy’s varsity basketball team competed in the Blue and Gold basketball tournament over the span of Christmas break, December 26th-30th. They played a total of 4 games competing for the consolation championship in the end. The team is a little more than halfway through its 2014-2015 season, and is currently standing strong with a winning record of 12-5. Coach Tim Brown, discussed how their offense helped them in the first game, “I thought we did a lot of nice things from an offensive standpoint that game.”
The boys kicked off the tournament on December 26th against Glendale at the Hammons Student Center. Junior, Kyle Cavanaugh, led the team with 20 points. Additionally, Evan Fullerton, sophomore, was the second leading scorer, with 16 points. The game finished with a tough loss, ending with a 58-73 score, in favor of the Falcons. On the loss, Brown added, “We are looking to play harder longer, our energy at times has lacked and we will be looking to improve that.” The Eagles’ second game was played against Morrisville. It was an easy game with a final score of 51-27. The team moved on to a game against Mountain Grove. Garrett Kesterson, sophomore, led the team to a victory over the Panthers, scoring a total of 33 points.
The boys moved on the the consolation bracket finals, a game against Aurora. Cavanaugh and Kesterson both led the game with 12 points each. It ended in a Houndogs’ win, 48-39. After the loss, Brown commented, “I thought overall we had a good tournament, anytime you can play 4 games in the Blue and Gold thats a good thing.”
Cavanaugh says, “We’d like to improve on our transition offense, keeping the other team’s points low, and working as a team.” The team has won their last four games, beating Stockton, Ash Grove, Catholic, and Warsaw.
The Eagles are scheduled to play in the Sparta Tournament, that begins on January 26th.
