On Thursday, February 10th, FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) members competed in district competitions at First Baptist Church in Bolivar. Around 40 students attended the competition from Fair Grove. This includes anyone who takes a test or is in a performance, ranging from Sports Management to Agriculture Business. Students arrived the church bright and early on Thursday morning, to start their scheduled day of activities for District 13 FBLA-PBL. Fair Grove is just one of 22 Schools competing in District 13.

To start, students attended the opening general session in the worship center, before listening to officer campaigns for next year’s candidates. Many students performed their certain area of study at scheduled times throughout the day, while students who had already taken a test for district competitions were required to visit one of the many workshops available for students during the day. These workshops included quizzes over the FBLA-PBL history and various other facts about District 13, and at the end of the day, the highest scoring quizzes were picked for door prizes.

Fair Grove placed in 24 total events at the District Competition. Business Teacher and FBLA Sponsor Cayse Overstreet comments, “I was excited to see all of your business students hard work pay off! As humans, we are always critical of our own work. It was neat to see our student’s faces, shocked at how well they did, when they were called on stage. As teachers, we like to praise our hard workers and it was really neat to see others reward them for their talent!”

20 students from Fair Grove were able to qualify for State Competitions. To qualify for state, students must have placed 1st or 2nd on written tests, or 1st in a performance category. The following students qualified for state competitions, which include, Logan Hill and Autumn Wilson (Desktop Publishing), Katelyne Cloyd (Agribusiness), Ashlea Burks (Insurance and Risk Management), Nick Andrews (Business Procedures), Jordan Baskin, Hallie Merisotes and Preston Padgett (Community Service Project), Mitchell Johnson and Maddie Robinson (Computer Game & Simulation Programming), Lorin Weaver, Rashawn Moore and Chad Garoutte (E-Business), Emily Hopkins, Skylar Kensinger and Kirsten Carver (Partnership with Business), Mitchell Johnson, Bailey Weaver, and Kelli Oplotnik (Social Media Campaign).
