Track Team Preparing for District Success

The track team wrapped up their season on May 5th in the MLC track meet in Strafford. The girls team took 2nd in this meet and had several girls medal. The team had two girls take first in their events which include Kelsey Brunkhorst (10) in triple jump and long jump and Jorden Stacey (11) in pole vault. Overall the girls team placed 2nd in the MLC track meet scoring a total of 126 points. Another big track meet leading up to districts was the Willard meet on April 23rd. The team had twelve relays or events medal. In this meet, four girls placed first in their events with Jorden in pole vault, Kelsey in long jump, Dawn McGinnis (11) in discus, and Maegan Holland (10) in high Jump. “The hardest meet has to be SBU because there were a lot of big schools,” says Holland, for districts, “ We are working really hard and focusing on our events.”
On the boys side of the MLC track meet, the 4X400 relay and the 4X100 relay both placed third while the 4X200 relay placed second. Isaac Mauldin (9), who ran the 400, and Austin Maters (12), who ran the 300m hurdles, also placed 2nd. Overall the boys placed 4th in the MLC track meet scoring 68 points.
Masters said, “My favorite part about track is finding really good friends to compete with. Joe Caudle and I have collectively broken the school record for 300m hurdles six times this year.” Caudle currently holds the 300m hurdles record but Masters hopes to regain it.
Saturday, May 16, the Fair Grove track team wrapped up their district tournament at home, and is now preparing for sectionals. There are several individuals heading to this event, allowing the track team to be optimistic.
