Golf Team Putts in Solid Season

The Fair Grove Golf team has wrapped up their season this year, and is quite satisfied with their performance. With two juniors, two sophomores, and three freshmen, the golf team has been confident in their posture, and successful in their strides.
The golf coach, Brian Tucker, reviews the team’s progress throughout the season, “This year was a year of growth due to our team losing our entire varsity roster from graduation. I was really proud of the strides our team made throughout the year. I felt like our players met my expectations.”
According to Tucker, one of the golf team’s most important matches was the Strafford Invitational. They finished second overall, and Carter Crews (10), one of the team’s varsity players, finished with the second best score in the tournament.
Varsity player, Emily Derrick (11) describes what the invitational was like, “The Strafford Invitational was a lot of fun and there were a lot of good schools there to compete with.”
The Fair Grove Golf team played at districts on May 4, which would lead them to sectionals. Emily Derrick also analyzes the team’s performance at districts, “We didn’t play great, but we didn’t play awful. No one advanced from districts.” This year’s, districts were held at Buffalo.
The Fair Grove golf team this season was composed of seven players. On varsity: Emily Derrick (11), Jayden Kensinger (9), Thomas Breummer (9), and Carter Crews (10). On junior varsity, Caleb Johnston (11), Philip Tucker (10), and Noah Nivens (9). According to Tucker, the entire team will be returning next year.
On Monday, May 11, the golf team performed for sectionals at Payne Stewart. They did not advance to state; however, concluding the Eagle’s Spring 2015 golf season.
