The Fair Grove Boys’ Soccer team won their home tournament, the Fair Grove Soccer Invitational, on September 4th and 5th. The tournament included Riverton, Aurora, and Laquey. The Eagles came out of the tournament as the champions with a 3-0 record for the tournament.

The Eagles began the tournament on Friday with a 2:30 pm game against Riverton. The Eagles took the lead with Brian Carroll (10) making the first goal. Tristan Salkil(12), Hunter Maxwell(10), and Sebastian Newkirk (10) then each scored one goal, along with Kyle Cavanaugh (12), Maicol Newkirk (9), and Garret Potter (10) who all scored two goals each. These goals gave the Eagles their first victory of the tournament in an 11-2 win.

The Eagles second game of the tournament was at 8 am Saturday September 5th against Aurora. Aurora is the only team the Eagles will see again. Garret Potter (10) and Miacol Newkirk (9) both scored two goals for a 4-1 victory to put the Eagles in the Hound Dogs minds.

This second victory led the Eagles into their final tournament game against Laquey.  Coach Joseph Florez comments, “Laquey beat us two weeks ago, so it made it an intense game.” The Eagles came out of this game with a 3-1 victory with Miacol Newkirk, Sebastian Newkirk, and Garret Potter each scoring.

This was the Eagles’ second tournament of the season. Florez said, “The Lebanon tournament was a good learning experience playing against bigger schools.” The Eagles left the Lebanon tournament with a record of 1-2. Mason Kesterson (12) added, “The tournament in Lebanon allowed us to see where we were at early in the season and what we needed to work on against the bigger schools. The Fair Grove tournament allowed us to see what we’ve improved on and let us get revenge back on Laquey.”
