Middle School Competes In Scholar Bowl Tournaments
March 31, 2016
Every Thursday after school from 3:00 to 4:00 o’clock, 12 middle school students participate in scholar bowl. Scholar bowl is a club where students are asked random questions about math, science, literature, pop culture, history, politics, and ancient civilizations. When the kids go to competitions they are put onto teams and then asked one question at a time. The kids are only given 10 seconds to answer the question, if they get the answer wrong then the other team has a chance to get the question right.
Chanda Lemon, the sponsor, says “Anyone can join us for practice, but I only take 7th & 8th graders to the tournaments.” They had a conference tournament in Strafford on Saturday February 20th, which they won and Grant Squires (8) was ranked first, Nate Brigman (7th grade) was ranked 6th and Nate Bruner (7) was ranked 9th in all conference team. “The variation of the questions were probably the hardest part of the conference because they asked some about religion, geography, math, and science.”, says Squires, “The science questions are easy for me though because that is my favorite subject.”
“My favorite thing about scholar bowl is getting to answer the trivia questions and hanging out with my friends.”, says Nate Brigman (7th).
There is an upcoming tournament on Saturday March 5th, Chanda Lemon and Michelle Wahlquist will be hosting the quizzing here at Fair Grove. Starting at 9:00 a.m. and lasts till 1:00 p.m.
