Sprinting Through a Successful Season
May 19, 2016
The Fair Grove track team accomplished many goals throughout the season. Both the boys and girls had many great wins as individuals and as a team.
The boys’ track team has had many great accomplishments through the year. Many athletes who were placing in seventh and eighth place at the beginning of the season are now consistently placing third or fourth. Coach Mark Talbert is very pleased with how far the boys’ team has come since the beginning of the season. “We have had an extremely successful track season. We won the Marshfield, Bolivar and Fair Grove track meets as a team. We have finished second as a team in the Stockton, Strafford, and Willard meets. We placed third in our division with over 50 schools competing in the SBU Invitational. As a team, we are one of the better small schools in the area,” stated Talbert. The boys’ have also broken past track records for Fair Grove High School. The 100 meter dash, triple jump, shot put, and 4×400 meter relay records for the school have all been broken during the season, with the records for the 4×200 meter relay, long jump, and the open 400 meter record times in reach.
The girls’ track team has had a successful season as well. The girls 4×100 meter, 4×200 meter, and 4×400 meter have had a lot of success and have medaled in the majority of the meets that the team has attended. Some successful athletes this season have been Jorden Stacey (12) and Bailey Weaver (12). Stacey competes in the pole vault, open 100 meter, and open 200 meter, and has medaled in all three events at nearly every meet. Weaver competes in the 100 meter hurdles, and for the past month has been on a string of finishing in the top three. The girls have also had success in their throwing events. “I feel like the girls have done such an awesome job. We are a very young team and we share a lot of girls with two other sports and they’ve been impressive juggling everything. I feel like we have really started to click as a team, especially in our relays,” commented Martin.
Both teams are pushing to finish off the season with even greater accomplishments and are hopeful for trips to state for some of their athletes.
