Middle School Football players prepare for practice

Jacob Morelan

Over the last several years Fair Grove’s 7th and 8th grade middle school football team has been very successful in the eyes of their coach, Principal Marc Green. Mr. Green stated, “We have been very successful over the last few years at the middle school level. I expect the same next year. As long as our kids come out and learn the game and learn to compete it will be considered a success.”

He is hoping that several of last year’s key players will come back and play again. He is also hoping to develop some of the younger athletes into good solid football players. With the new year his main goal is to stay at the middle school level they’ve been at. Mr. Green said, “Our primary goals always stay at the same middle school level. We strive to teach our athletes the fundamentals of the game, while also promoting their social growth and development.”

One of the athletes, Blake Lewis, mentioned that his main goal for the season was for him and the team to get better throughout the year. Coach Green is anticipating 35-40 students from 7th and 8th grades to come and play in the new season.

Over the summer many of the players tried to stay active and in game ready condition, by attending the “Active Eagles” summer school class or by playing other sports. Mr. Green mentioned, “Many of our athletes attended Active Eagles this summer and quite a few of them play multiple sports during the summer. This keeps them active and engaged in competition.“ Which will help them in their games against the other MLC (Mid Lakes Conference) teams. Kody Stacy is looking forward to their first game, September 5th at 5:30pm, against Skyline especially after our defeat last year.
