The Fair Grove varsity volleyball team stampeded their way to first place at the Licking tournament, Saturday, September 30. At the tournament the Lady Eagles faced teams such as Rolla, Cabool, Mt. View Liberty, and Mountain Grove.

Senior, Shyann Proctor stated, “We worked really hard at practice all week to prepare for this tournament.” Harley Maxwell (11) said, “ We were very determined to do good at this tournament.”

Fair Grove had lost to Strafford the same week as the tournament, so getting first was a very big accomplishment for the girls. They had a rough week before the tournament, so they left everything they had on the court Saturday.

Harley Maxwell (11) said, “I woke up at 5:30 am, so I could be on the bus by 6:00. We were all very tired, but the bagels that coach Peck brought brightened our moods.”

After the 2 hour bus ride to Licking. The girls piled out of the bus and began to get into a game playing mood. They were fired up all day as they won all of their games, and split with Rolla. Shyann Proctor stated, “Rolla was not as skilled as Mt. View Liberty, but it was for sure the hardest team we played.”

The girls won the championship game against Mt. View Liberty, and gained the title as first place. That was the first time Fair Grove has ever competed in the Licking tournament, so winning the championship was a very big accomplishment for the players and coaches. “We are super pumped for the rest of our season, having tournament wins is a big accomplishment,” Harley Maxwell (11) said.

After the Licking tournament, the girls played Ash Grove and Marionville, winning both games, the team seems to be making a comeback from the Strafford game.

The Fair Grove JV volleyball team has a tournament Saturday, October 7 at home.
