Fall Sports Update
October 5, 2017
In Fair Grove, sports are a big deal to the students, faculty, staff, and the community. The students at FGHS have had a great 2017-2018 season in all the fall sports. These sports include Football, Soccer, Volleyball, and Cross Country.
The Fair Grove Football team has had a good season so far after losing some key players that graduated in May 2017. This year, Jayden Kensinger (12), Isaac Mauldin (12), Hunter Robertson (12), Colton Dame (12), Stewart Hopkins (12) and Noah Sandridge (12) are some of the key players that are leading the team this year, Head Coach Bill Voorhis tells us. The Eagles strived to win their homecoming game versus the Marionville Comets making their record 5-2. Earlier in the season the Eagles fought to win their games against Springfield Catholic and Strafford but unfortunately falling short. “ The loss to Strafford was very difficult to handle, we would like to play them again soon.” States Bill. Coach Voorhis also adds that he is pleased with how the team has done and their resiliency the boys have had for the 2017-2018 season. The team will play Ash Grove at home at 7pm on Friday, October 6th.
The Fair Grove’s Boy’s Soccer team keeps improving as their 2017-2018 season goes on. The team is currently 11-6-1 this season. Garret Potter (12), Maicol Newkirk (11), and Kamron Stacey (11) are some key players this season. Head Coach Joseph Florez tells us that the team has gotten off to a slow start, and have been a bit inconsistent in their play, but they have definitely improved as the season has gone on. The boys went on a nine-game winning streak recently. The Eagles beat Parkview High School for the first time ever, winning in overtime. The team also beat Crocker in overtime. With that win, the Eagles ended Crocker’s undefeated winning streak. “ We still need to become more consistent, playing two good halves of soccer, if we’re going to continue to beat good teams.” Stated Florez.
Fair Grove Lady Eagles Volleyball are currently 23-4-3 and are doing exceptional for the amount of competition the girls are facing. This year, Sierra Anderjaska (12), Alana Findley (11), and Shyan Proctor (12), are some players to look out for Head Coach Tonya Peck tells us. Coach also adds that she counts on every girl on the team to be a key player throughout the season. “We have discussed since summer that it is the little things that will win the team championships.” states Peck. The volleyball team has had some tough competition this year, such as Rogersville, Willard, and Strafford. Recently, the girls won the Ash Grove Tournament. “The season has been great so far. The team has really worked well together this year to eliminate drama and make the team a priority. It has paid off on the court. We are expecting big things in the next few weeks!” Coach Peck says their next goal is to win districts.
