Fall´s Haunted Awakenings

Amanda Orr

I attended two local haunted houses these past few weeks. One was Hotel of Terror and the other was Dungeons of Doom. Both are located in Downtown Springfield.

Hotel of Terror was a very similar setup to recent years’ themes. The scare factor was definitely still there though. First, you walk up stairs and proceed through the three levels before going down a slide to the end. One of my favorite characters was the person with the chain saw. The sound it makes against the cage adds an extra layer of fear. Another character at Hotel of Terror that always makes me cringe with fright is the person dressed up as ¨Chucky” from the famous horror film. The Chucky character kept asking me if I wanted to play with them, and I felt like running away.

The second haunted house I attended was Dungeons of Doom. Out of seven levels three of them are open for people to roam through. This haunted house was different than Hotel of Terror in the sense of theme set up and design. I was terrified by the clown that jumped out at me from the very beginning of the journey. The most scariest level was the insane asylum looking floor that made me heart beat fast and my palms started sweating. I felt that at any moment I could be attacked by someone.

Overall I enjoyed both places a lot. I liked how scary the people were at Hotel of Terror. I also loved the different changes that have been added onto Dungeons of Doom. A new layer of Dungeons of Doom will open up Friday the 13th. Doors open at 7:00pm. The cost for Hotel of Terror is 14 dollars, and the cost for Dungeons of Doom is 17 dollars. If you want to see them both then the price has been reduced to 25 dollars.
