Family Fun for All
April 16, 2018
On March 8th 2018, the elementary school hosted its last family fun night of this school year. On average around 250 people show up prepared to have fun throughout the night. This hour long event was from 5:30-6:30 in the elementary lunch room. There were lots of different board games as well as areas to play with building blocks, and make paper airplanes.
This event usually happens three times a year in September, December, and March. Each night has different things for the kids to do. The fall night (in September) there is a craft station, storytelling, the bookfair and a snack mix station where you can make your own custom stacks. There are also several big trucks that come in from the local area for kids to explore. For the winter night (in December) there is storytelling, several different craft stations, cookie decorating, and every child that comes receives a free book. Lastly the spring event (in March) has board games, crafts, and popsicle sticks for families to enjoy. Some of the crafts that families did were making paper airplanes, and drawing pictures to put glitter and googly eyes on. They also have games like Jenga as well as scrabble, twister, and other various board games.
Family fun nights are put together by the Title 1 department and Parents As Teachers as kind of a fun way to get new parents in the community involved more with their children in school and meeting other families to make new family friends. Mrs. Erin Neal, the elementary instructional coach and gifted education director and teacher, is the main teacher in charge of the bulk of this event. However, several other teachers, Including the elementary principal Mrs. Hollan, showed up with their families to participate in the fun.
