The Fair Grove Math Team competed at the MLC Math Contest at Ash Grove High School on Wednesday. Every school in the Midlakes Conference competed so there were 7 different schools at the contest in total.

Michael Van Cleave, Nicki Kisling, and Beth Mauldin are the sponsors for the math team, and help the students tremendously with preparing for the contests. “We did pretty well at the MLC contest, we took 2nd overall as a team,” said sponsor Van Cleave.

In the individual categories Grant Squires (10) got 1st place in Algebra 2, and Jacob Morelan (10) received 3rd in Geometry. In the 4th Year Mathematics category Sierra Anderjaska(12) got 1st, while Riley Cavin(11) placed 4th right behind her. In the team sections of the contest the Algebra 2 team of Eli Hamp (10) and Grant Squires placed 3rd. The 4th Year Mathematics team of Thomas Bruemmer, Colten Dame, and Kelly Elder placed 1st overall.

“To prepare for the contest I just made sure that my mind was refreshed of all of the subjects that I have learned over all of these years,¨ said Senior Sierra Anderjaska.

The math team had a great year overall and there are no further competitions in their season for the rest of this 2017-2018 school year. ¨Being apart of math team has helped me to prepare for college and helped me to be successful in my math classes throughout the years at Fair Grove High School,” says Anderjaska.
