Fair Grove Elementary Welcomes Grandparents

On Friday September 14th,  Fair Grove Elementary hosted their annual Grandparents Day. In Mrs. Mckeever’s fourth grade class she had about 57 grandparents attend. In the morning kindergarten and first grade had grandparents visiting. Then in the afternoon second through fourth grade got their turn. “The day starts off with grandparents enjoying a heart-felt performance by the K-4 students. Grandparents are then welcomed into their grandchild’s classroom, so they can see and experience a little of what they do at school each day,” explained Mrs. McKeever. That was followed by the children taking their grandparents to the Book Fair. The PTO also offers a photo booth to give them a picture to take home from the day.

Students who don’t have grandparents near are still included. Mrs. Strader stated, “Children without grandparents were set up with a substitute grandparent or person to enjoy the activities with. The Book Fair gave them a $5 gift card to spend as well.” In her 3rd grade class the students made cards and wrote poetry for their grandparents. Mrs. Straders favorite parts of the day are, “Meeting and talking with grandparents,” as well as, “Seeing the joy on student’s faces.”

Mrs. Highfill, a first grade teacher said that Grandparents Day is one of her favorite days of the year. “This is such a great way for our students to show appreciation for each of the Grandparents. This is a great way for our school and community to come together,” she stated. Mrs. Highfill loves the joy it brings to each grandparent describing it as, “simply amazing.” The students also, “love to give them the special things they made for them and show them the classrooms that they are so proud of.” Grandparents day is a fun happy day all around for the students and grandparents.
