Fair Grove Boys Soccer Team Kicks Off the Season
October 2, 2018
The Fair Grove High School Boys Soccer team returns for yet another season this fall and is kicking it off to a great start. This summer the boys prepared for their fall season with summer practices and scrimmages and even added a 3 day team camp. Last year the team went 14-6-1 for their season. The team graduated out multiple players in May and this is opening up new spots on the team to find their new dynamics.
This year, Head Coach Joseph Florez is joined by the new Assistant Coach, Logan Beach, a Fair Grove Alumni. Florez stated that the team is excited to have Logan on board and that he can help contribute a lot to the team this year. Since the team graduated out multiple varsity spots, the team is going to have a lack of varsity playtime, but this will be making room for new players and leaders, and causing some movement on the roster to find the best fit for the 2018-2019 team. This season, the team consists of about 28 boys. This year the team has a good amount of new players and freshman. Florez stated that Shain Lahey (12), Andrew Schurtz (9), and Josh Orr (9) are going to be some new players to look out for this season. “Shain is aggressive and fast, and the other two are experienced with soccer history.” Lahey is starting as outside mid on the Varsity team as a beginner. “Soccer is a lot of fun! I’ve learned a lot and enjoy playing, ” stated Lahey. The team participated in the Lebanon tournament and won their first game against Lebanon 3-2, then played Dixon High School and won 6-1 allowing them to advance to play West Plains for the Championship game. The team is currently 12-4-1, and is scheduled to play against Crocker on October 2nd at Crocker.
