The Truth Behind TRUE

Middle school students listen during the TRUE meeting

During Monday mornings at 7:45 in the High School Library computer lab, middle school students from 5th to 8th grade gather to partake in the club called TRUE. The name TRUE stands for “Teens Reaching Unbelieving Eagles” which adequately represents the entire point of club. By coming together every Monday, members provide a safe place for one another in hopes to openly discuss and learn about God and his word.

Though there is no primary student leader or officer of the group, it is each and every club member’s job to lead, speak, and participate. Throughout the year, the students sign up for certain meetings in which they will talk about a particular topic, scripture, or thought. Leola Bryce, a 5th grade science teacher at Fair Grove and the head of TRUE, said, “I believe this group allows the students the advantage to begin their week in a positive and uplifting way. I personally love the kindness and caring heart of the group as they grow closer by sharing experiences together.” The group attempts to shape young believers of God to be kind and considerate outwardly whilst still standing firm in their beliefs. Some meetings they spend studying scripture while during others, they discuss personal hardships they face faithfully. Isaac Lacross, a 5th grade Fair Grove student commented, “I like to learn about God..it’s just interesting to learn about him.” Another student, Kenna Fishback, stated, “We get to learn about God and what he does for us and how he takes care of us.” TRUE gives students a chance to express their faith in place without judgement and allows them to learn about Christian religion right at school.

It is estimated that 20-40 students generally participate in TRUE; however, each student is fully welcome and invited to join whenever they want to. As the year goes on, there is no doubt that TRUE will continue to teach and preach to students about Christian faith, and will maintain its wonderful reputation of being a club in which students feel safe and accepted.
