Main Street Cafe Sets Up Shop

Middle school students work coffee shop for Character Council

Jacob Morelan

Every year the middle school Character Council puts up a shop, named “The Main Street Cafe,” in the back corner of the lunch room. Setting up three tables, one for the cashiers, one for making drinks, and one for order pick up. Working within this space is 6 to 8 of the council’s student officers, doing their jobs as fast and as smoothly as possible to avoid any mishaps, along with them is the council’s sponsor, Mrs. Shawnda Minor. The shop is open every morning between 7:30 am until the first bell, December 10th through the 20th.

The main goal of this cafe is to raise money for the middle school, for activities, helping other programs in and out of the school, or other items. Mrs. Minor noted,”The cafe is used as a fundraiser for the Middle School. From year to year we have varied where the funds go, but we have been able to add the water fountains, a Chromebook cart, supplemented the Activities fund, and other items throughout the year. We have also used the funds to aid Heart2Heart and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. We are still discussing where the funds will go this year.”

They will be serving hot chocolate and cappuccino, both drinks cost only $2 unless you ask for toppings, like marshmallows or whipped cream, which will cost extra. At the cafe will also be peppermint candy canes for 50 cents. During the times that they are open some of the students working will be making delivery runs to any teachers that place an order on the link that was sent out in an email from Mrs. Minor. On that website teachers in all schools can either order a drink for themselves or order a drink as a gift for other teachers.
