Harley Maxwell, a senior at Fair Grove High School, and an exceptional basketball player for the varsity team, was offered a scholarship from Evangel University. Maxwell’s well earned scholarship was for both academics, and basketball. Harley accepted the offered scholarship, and signed publicly November 14, at Fair Grove High School. Harley signed along with her fellow teammate, Lexie Sutherland in the high school gymnasium.
“Harley Maxwell is one of my most hard working students, and will always go above and beyond what is asked. She is always so kind, caring, and optimistic. Harley is truly such a joy to have in class, I will be so torn when she graduates,” said Joseph Florez, soccer coach, and English teacher.
Harley is an outstanding student according to Florez, and all of the other teachers that have the opportunity to have Harley in class. Although many teachers feel this way about Harley, this outstanding student has received “one-too-many tardies,” according to high school secretary Rhonda Daniels. Rhonda has repeatedly caught Maxwell a number of times trying to sneak into school, in hopes of dodging tardies. Harley has even been reported trying to plead and beg with the secretary for an excused tardy, however, Rhonda shows no mercy.
After these frequent occurrences with Maxwell, Evangel was contacted. Evangel revoked the scholarship that was previously offered to Maxwell. Harley is now considering red shirting at OTC, so she can fulfill her destiny and play at Evangel.
“I’m sorry for my actions, and all the days I’ve slept in, I never thought they’d bring me to this point,” explained Maxwell.
Maxwell has changed her ways since her scholarship was revoked, and avoids ISS at all cost. “ISS really changes a person. Get to school on time, and don’t try to outsmart Rhonda,” said Harley as advice for her fellow students.
