Junior Varsity in Action

Chloe Marlow

Whenever the word “sports” is mentioned, most people, by habit and knowledge, think only of varsity sports. Junior varsity sports teams exist in almost every school around America but unfortunately go, often times, unrecognized.

Fair Grove High School’s JV football team currently -valid as of October 8th, 2019- has won six games and lost none. Kaden Dennert (10), is a wide receiver for Fair Grove’s junior varsity team. Dennert elaborated on the one major difference between varsity and JV sports, “Varsity players have the opportunity to go to state.” JV football players can possibly move to varsity if they put in enough work and effort in their game. The junior varsity volleyball team consists of sophomores and juniors. Like football, the coaches will decide whether someone is JV or varsity based off of the athleticism of the player. Dani Kepler coaches the girls and motivates them to win. Hailey Hulette (10), is a middle hitter, #27 for the team, and has played volleyball for Fair Grove for over three years. Hulette is currently pushing herself to excel athletically so she can hopefully play varsity her Junior year. “I motivate myself to push harder, go after every ball and give full effort.” she said.
