Party Hunting: Finding Your Group

Avery Gautieri

Dungeons and Dragons is a game that is a bit more complicated in its playability than the average board game. With many rules to remember and several ways of playing based on personal preference, finding the right group to play with can be a bit challenging for new or aspiring players. Ideally, a group of friends who all share an interest in starting a campaign can learn together as they go, but of course, this isn’t possible for every single person wanting to play.

This being said, there are a few good ways to find others to play with. The first, and easiest, way of finding a group is to simply ask around, especially if you’re in school.  Though it can feel like you’re the only person interested, there are likely several people that want to play just as much as you do. There may already be an existing group that you would be able to join.

Finding a group of people with the right dynamic is difficult, and sometimes it takes some time to find a group that is the right fit for you. Whether you like a game that’s heavy in roleplay, or one that is only combat oriented, there are always other people that will mesh with you, it’s just a matter of finding them.
