A Summary of Recent Events in Politics 10/18
October 22, 2019
Donald Trump’s presidency is something that could be referred to as a series of firsts. Whether some would like to admit it or not, he’s changed history. But being the first at something isn’t always beneficial. President Donald J. Trump might be the first president to ever be impeached by the House. This could potentially make or break the President, and jeopardize his chances of re-election. Or could the President find a way to reverse the odds of impeachment and use his experience from the circumstances as a political strategy to advance his 2020 electoral position?
Matt Lauer, ex anchor for NBC Today, has returned to headlines after former NBC producer, Brooke Nevils, accuses Lauer of rape and sexual misconduct in book titled Catch and Kill written by investigative reporter Ronan Farrow. Catch and Kill is construed as the story of women who risked everything to expose the truth and spark a global movement. According to Farrow, the phrase “catch and kill”, is where a publication buys the rights to a story and then buries the story as a favor to someone. Farrow aided in uncovering the truth about film producer Harvey Weinstein, by exposing him for blackmailing women through threatening to compromise their careers so they’d keep quiet about the sexual harassment that was occurring. Farrow’s biography Catch and Kill was released October 16th, and is available for purchase on Amazon and most local bookstores near you.
How does this affect you? For one, your highly esteemed and cherished president might’ve gotten himself in an irreversible position where his term would end earlier than originally expected. But knowing Mr. President and his reputation, it’s very likely this impeachment threat will wilt out of most Americans minds and cease to be a threat. Farrow’s dedication to exposing painful truths to the world and being a huge ally of motions like the Me Too movement and other organizations related is something that could inspire and encourage thousands of other youth like myself to stand up for a cause if you believe in it. It’s easier to be a follower than a leader, but remember who’s more likely to be noted as someone who changed lives.
