Student Spotlight: Dalton Roberts

Fair Grove High Schools sophomore, Dalton Roberts, spends his free time, when he is not in school, racing at Lebanon Midway Speedway. This was his first season racing and he already placed first in a race, which he said is his biggest achievement yet. Starting off the season Dalton was nervous, his first race had 17 people competing. The season went well regardless. “This season has been good. I am 4th in the points for the fall season,” explained Dalton.

Dalton had some motivation to become a racer from home. He comes from a whole family of racers and this has helped push him to start himself. “My family has all had a past in racing and it has passed on to me,” said Dalton. His dad, uncle, grandpa and himself all race or have in the past and they help each other with their cars. They all work on his car every Wednesday night to prepare for any upcoming races he might have.

Half way through the season Dalton had to switch what class he was racing in. He switched from Kids Cruiser to the adult class. The Kids Cruiser class was too hard on the cars and the adult class is taken more seriously, he commented, “When we were racing kids cruiser there was a lot of stuff tore up and a lot of problems with the other people in the class. The respect in the adult class is a lot more enjoyable and a lot more competition.” The only thing he had to change on his car to be able to race in the adult class was changing his tires.

Dalton ended the season on Sunday November 2nd at Springfield Raceway, even though that is not where he normally races.
