Lebanon I-44 Speedway
January 21, 2020
Around Missouri, asphalt tracks tend to be a rarity, due to the rising popularity of dirt/clay tracks. Lebanon I-44 is one of two asphalt oval tracks still open in Missouri, aside from Bolivar Speedway, which transitioned from being a dirt track to an asphalt track.
I-44 is a ⅜ mile, high banked oval track that is located just off the Interstate 44 (I-44). This track is home to six different classes of asphalt cars: Pro Late Models, Modifieds, Big 10 Late Model Series, Street Stock, Chargers and Baby Grands.
In my experience, I found asphalt racing to be very boring and very uneventful. Most of the racing stays in a single lane without much action or fighting for a spot from the drivers, after the start they tend to just stay in a line until the end of the race. Also, due to the popularity of dirt track racing, there tends to be a lack of cars in asphalt racing, making the races very uneventful. If asphalt racing had a greater turnout in numbers, I would be more inclined to go watch it, but for now I will stick with my trusted dirt tracks, where the racing gets wild and the nights are never boring.
