Impeachment Update
January 30, 2020
The new year has just started, and so has the political chaos within the Senate and House as the impeachment trials progress onto the next stage. The first impeachment hearing began on September 17th, 2019 with the testimony of former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski.
The unexpected success of the pursuit towards Trump’s presidential position being revoked has upset many Republicans within the trial. Democratic Representative for Congress, Jerry Nadler, spoke on the second trial day, “They [Republicans] insist the President has done nothing wrong. They refuse to allow the evidence and hear from the witnesses.” Nadler continued to elaborate on a claim stating that President Donald Trump and the Republican Party have proceeded to lie throughout the entire impeachment trial, “President Trump repeatedly complained that the House denied him the right to call witnesses and cross examine… I have with me the letter I sent as Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee November 26th. Inviting the President and counsel to attend our hearings. I have the letter, the White House letter signed by Mr. Cipollone rejecting that offer. We should expect at least a little regard from the truth from the White House.”
President Trump’s lawyer, Pat Cipollone, clapped back at Nadler’s claims, stating that the only person who should be “embarrassed” is himself [Nadler] for making such accusations. “Mr. Nadler came up here and made false allegations against our team,” Cipollone elaborated, “He made false allegations against all of you. He accused you of a coverup. He’s been making false allegations against the President.” Cipollone continued to repeatedly mention the exaggerated rendition of the scandalous phone call Trump had with Ukrainian President Zelensky by Adam Schiff, stating that Schiff should resign.
