Getting Robbed Twice

Over the past two years former Arizona Alumni basketball player, Aaron Gordon, has potentially been robbed in two of the most watched dunk contests in history.

In 2016 he competed against Zach LaVine and came close to first place, but fell short due to a score of 49 on a double clutch dunk. LaVine won by doing an around the world dunk from the free throw line, after his normal free throw line dunk.

This year, Aaron Gordon was talking with a TV announcer, and the announcer asked Gordon if he thought he could dunk over Tacko Fall (7’5” center for the Boston Celtics). After this dunk he got a score of 47/50, and just before that Derrick Jones Jr. got a 48/50 (The other competitor).

This was a tough year again for Gordon, and after he ended it by saying, “It’s a wrap bro. I feel like I should have two trophies,” he continued on with, “You know what I mean? So it’s over for that. My next goal is going to be trying to win the three-point contest.”

Derrick Jones Jr. won the 2020 dunk contest, and Fair Grove student, Malachi Sutherland, says, “I feel like the judges wanted to make it interesting, and make it go into overtime, but one of the judges didn’t pick the right score.”
