On September 27, the Eagles came together to compete in a Fair Grove tradition, Powderpuff, where the White team battled the Purple team, and all proceeds went to Dr. Hollan and her battle against cancer.
Powder Puff is a Fair Grove tradition where the Lady Eagles compete in flag football, and the football players contribute by coaching and cheering them on. In this event, all students from returning seniors to new coming freshmen compete for a win. This year’s themes are purple and white, highlighting community spirit and athletic strength.
Taylor Green (12) describes the experience of having varsity football players as cheerleaders and coaches, “I think having them as coaches and cheerleaders will be funny, but I know they are going to yell at us, so I’m not looking forward to that.”
Stephanie Dunham (12) described what she’s excited for about powderpuff, “The main thing I’m looking forward to doing PowderPuff this year is obviously winning, and most of all getting an opportunity to have fun with my classmates…I think it’s great that the football players get to play the role of coaches. It makes the event way more student involved and just adds to the fun.”
Oakland Morrison (12), a powderpuff coach, described his key players, and why he chose to coach his team, the White Team. “I’m coaching because I like getting involved with school events, and I love football. Coaching a powderpuff team combines those things. Our key players are going to be the Padgett sisters, Taylor Green, Savannah Ipock, and Aubrie Voorhis. All these people are athletes, and have many different strengths when it comes to football, whether it be speed or power.”
Jackson Martin (12), another football powderpuff coach, described his athletes and how they will benefit the team. “The opportunity to get these girls to the next level was one I could not pass up. We have a variety of track type athletes on our team including the Padgetts, (Emma being a returning All Star), Savannah and Gracie, both also dominant forces in last year’s game, and finally Taylor Green along with Lindy Sutherland should also be good for us as well. Not to mention a plethora of freshman talent.”
Powderpuff gives an opportunity for the community to come and witness the high school students come together to support a good cause, compete in good competition, and have fun.
