The Fair Grove Football season is starting out with a bang, the team will play their rivals the Strafford Indians on the week of September 29.
The team has been anticipating this game to be a challenge, Mason Koller (12) stated, “I feel as if the game vs. Strafford will be one of our more difficult games.”
Although the game will be a fight, the team feels confident they have prepared well. Koller went on to say, “I feel like we are more disciplined and more conditioned and more focused on what we are doing so that they won’t be a problem.” Gage Green (10) then shared that, “ We have a better overall team than them and should win that game.”
The team has many ways of preparing for the game against the Indians, some physical and some mental. Green explained, “For a normal game we just kind of go through the motions if it’s a team like Clever, but during that week (the week of the Strafford game) in practice everyone is hyped and all just want to kill Strafford, so basically a different environment.”
With a young team this season, the football team has a lot to prove by winning this game. Kellen Lair (11) stated, “ If we win no one will question us and underestimate us thinking we’re a young team who are not disciplined.”
Last year Fair Grove lost to Strafford due to factors that were not in their favor. Koller states, “I believe what really lost the game was injury, Spencer (starting Fair Grove Quarterback) was out with a torn ligaments in his foot and ankle, Kolton (an offensive strength on the team) tore his ACL, and I had a tear in my hamstring,”
Koller stated further that the odds look much better for the team this year, “ This season everyone has stayed healthy for the most part, and I believe that we are more prepared than we have ever been. I think the good thing that happened during the game is that we started off fast, and I believe that without injury we will finish fast and take back the winning title of the Mid Lakes.”
The Fair Grove Football season is just getting started and the team is currently undefeated, the team hopes to keep up this streak by winning their game against Strafford.
