On September 16th the Fair Grove Marching Eagles had their first band competition of the season. Members have voiced that they are very optimistic about this season.
For the band’s competition there was time and preparation put in so they could be ready to do their best. Kandlbinder said, “We prepared for our rehearsals Tuesday to Thursday from 6:45am to the end of first hour.” She added that during practices they worked on memorization as well as being able to march and play at the same time.
Some band members said they focused on memorizing the music as well as improving each day in rehearsal. During this time the band got to see their own show get put together as well as bond with people they never expected to and become almost family like.
At the very first competition Riley Frazier (11) said the Marching Eagles placed third out of five bands in class A. This is very good for the band which Frazier had mentioned is because they did better at this competition than they have in past years.
This season the band has a goal to make finals as well as “do our best and not waste time” as stated by Frazier. Another goal she mentioned was having the best leadership possible. This season of Marching Band is expected to go well, as said by a few of the band.
One of those band members was Amanda Lafreniere (10) who said, “This season is going to be really great. We started looking through the second part of our song during band camp which we couldn’t do last year, we also have been able to move forward really quickly.”
In Frazier’s opinion, “The best part of the Marching Band is the competitions. Competing at these competitions you get to show what you’ve spent so much time on to people who genuinely care for what you’re doing and I think that is a very wonderful thing.”
The next upcoming competition will be Ozarko, which will be held at MSU October 14th. Band competitions are open to families and anyone who wants to see highschool marching bands compete.
