The Fair Grove High School Volleyball Team has been digging deep for the 2023-2024 season, starting with the Branson Invitational on August 26 where they had a lot of success.
The Girls Volleyball Team has been preparing since spring of 2023, and they have not taken their practice for granted. Tonya Peck, the Volleyball Coach and School Counselor, elaborated,, “We have worked hard all summer to prepare for this season. We have been in the weight room three times a week, had multiple camps and leagues, and many bonding opportunities.” They have been training hard all summer, and have been consistently practicing.
At the Branson Invitational Tournament, the Eagles defeated Kearney, Forsyth, Mt. Vernon, Kirkwood, and Republic, all winning with a score of 2-0. They also won every game at the Buffalo Lady Bison Invitational tournament with consistent scores of 2-0. At Buffalo, they defeated New Covenant Academy, Buffalo, Hallsville, Stockton, Buffalo, and Eldon. Hannah Maxwell (12) stated, “I think everyone has improved so much. The setters are moving quicker to the ball and releasing faster after the ball is passed. Our hitters have gotten better with timing and keeping the ball controlled when out of system.” Last year’s season record was 30-2-4, the Eagles have kept up so far with a record of 29-1-2.
The team was able to bounce back this season because they only lost one senior last season. They will be losing three seniors after this season, consisting of Hannah Maxwell, Allison Findley, and Faith Klindworth. Coach Peck said, “We lost one senior last season so we were able to move into this season with a little more ease than normal. Our one senior we lost was Kam Green. She left big shoes to fill but the rest of the returning girls have stepped up to the challenge.”
The team’s final home game of the 2023-2024 season was on October 10 against Glendale. They had their last regular season game on October 16th at Clever, and are now entering districts.
