Fair Grove High School’s fall sports, cross country, football, volleyball, and boy’s soccer will all celebrate their team’s seniors with a senior night.
Senior night can mean many different things to each senior, but each have different feelings about the night. Some are excited or happy, and others can be nervous.
“Senior night to me really shows how much the community, my family, and friends love and support me as a student athlete. I am honestly not really looking forward to senior night because that means my days playing volleyball with my best friends are coming to an end,” said Varsity Volleyball libero, Faith Klindworth (12). She also stated that she is very grateful of the impact her coaches and teammates have had on her as an athlete and as an individual.
On the other hand, Kolten Stevens (12) who is on the Football Team said, “I’ve got the opportunity to watch many teammates walk out onto the field with their parents and it’s hard to believe I’m in those shoes now. It really does mean a lot to me being able to walk on the field with my parents, a Fair Grove Eagle.”
“Senior night means that I have made it through all four years of watching others be seniors and now it’s my turn,” stated Garrett Mullis, who is a member of the Boys Soccer team.
Luke Buescher, (12) a cross country runner, stated, “As a senior now, I am looking forward to Senior Night because we walk in front of the crowd as someone voice-overs our favorite parts about high school, a quote for underclassmen and what we plan to pursue after high school.”
All Fair Grove Athletes have similar feelings about what the Senior Nights mean to them, and the coaches are on the same page as well.
“Senior night is a special evening to recognize and spotlight our seniors and their contributions to our program. They have put in endless hours of dedication to Fair Grove Volleyball and we applaud them for it!” expressed, Varsity Volleyball coach, Tonya Peck.
Varsity Football coach Bill Voorhis also said that senior night is a chance for everyone to honor the seniors and their hard work. He expressed, “Unless you win a state championship, the end of the year can be emotional so this is a chance to honor the seniors without any of the end of the season emotion.”
Jalen Supancic, who is the cross country coach said, “Senior night is the night that we get to honor and recognize members who have been a part of our program and have left a huge impact on the athletes who are younger than them.”
Each coach sets expectations for their team as a whole, but especially the seniors for each year. Coach Peck said, “Expectations for my seniors are always high. They are expected to be leaders on and off the court and be a voice for our program as a whole.”
“I expect our seniors to continue to lead by example and push the underclassman everyday in practice,” Coach Voorhis stated.
Ryan Highstreet, the new Boys Soccer coach, said, ” It’s hard when a new coach takes over, but I want seniors to buy into the philosophies that I am trying to build.”
Coach Supancic said that his cross country runners are already doing an amazing job of using their grit and determination to lead the younger team members and to guide by example. “I am excited to have the dedication and commitment that this senior group of leaders possess,” he added.
Seniors themselves also set expectations and goals for the year for themself. Mason Koller (12), a member of Varsity Football, said, “I’m looking to further my skills as a player, learn valuable principles to use in the future and to just enjoy my last season with the guys and coaches I love playing with.”
Klindworth mentioned what she wanted out of her senior year and moving on, “This season I am really looking to set a solid standard for what fair grove volleyball is all about. I am also wanting to further my volleyball career moving into college.”
“I want to get some wins on the board and better our team,” Mullis expressed. Buescher commented, “This Cross Country season I am anticipating and looking forward to making it to all-state for Cross Country.” Buescher also added that he is also wanting to break his personal records this season.
