Art Club is an opportunity for students in an art class to expand on their creativeness and create unique projects.
Mrs. Brown, the high school art teacher and host of art club, explained, “Art club teaches students how to do extra things in art that we don’t normally do in class. Usually, they are more crafty ideas, but they are fun and things that students sometimes do not think of on their own. We tend to have snacks.”
Art Club has been around for many years at Fair Grove high school and Mrs. Brown took over when she started teaching at Fair Grove 12 years ago.
Art Club does many creative crafts and activities corresponding with the holidays. They do different themes and projects that also go along with the types of things Brown thinks the students would enjoy.
Mrs. Brown elaborated on the kinds of projects created in Art Club, “The ideas are usually themed. For example, last year, we made witch hats with creative bans around the brim.” She also continued, “This year we are making spooky slime. During February, we made super cute Valentine’s cards for family and friends. We tie dye, etc.”
At the end of the school year the Art Club is going to be taking a field trip to the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Brown stated, “The field trip is always a great experience because students get to see art that they may never have the opportunity to see like a Van Gogh, Picasso, or Monet.”
Brown said, “Art club is meant to be a fun, creative space for students. I want them just to enjoy making arts and crafts and spending time with their friends.” She continued, “Art club can be a fun break in their day where they get to be creative and take something that they made home.”
Any student can join Art Club and participate in the fun as long as they are in an art class and have no D’s or F’s.
