Starting at the beginning of the year, the Fair Grove High School Student Council and principal have come together to put out WOW! Cards to recognize students who show outstanding behavior.
WOW! Cards are an opportunity for kids to have their names hung up on a board with an act of kindness or something that positively impacts the school. Dr. Overstreet, the high school principal said, “The beginning of the year, our student council group has done an outstanding job promoting the power of positivity.”
He also followed this statement with, “I started WOW! Cards because I wanted to support them and their pursuit of bringing more positivity to our school.” Dr. Overstreet is very passionate about spreading positivity around the school.
Although these cards are still new, Dr. Overstreet hopes to see the positivity in the students and staff members at Fair Grove High School.
The WOW! Cards work when a student or staff member is able to recognize a student for their great act of kindness and positivity. They come into the office and ask to fill out a card, when it is filled out the cards are then hung upon the brag board, located in the middle hallway.
Amy Johnson said, a teacher from the history department, “I think the cards are a great incentive for students.” She also said, “I hope this will foster a positive environment and help students to recognize positive character traits in each other.”
A teacher in the math department, Susanne Feldman said, “I think oftentimes the good deeds are expected and maybe get passed over. I’m excited for students who do good on a regular basis to be recognized and feel appreciated for their kindness.”
Feldman also went on to add, “Anytime we can promote and highlight positivity it just adds to the culture we want here at FGHS. When you look for the good, you’ll find it, so this is a great way to keep the focus on the positive!”
Feldman also said, “WOW! Cards are still very new, but to be honest, there are always a lot of good things happening. I’m excited to see the positive influence it has as it catches on.”
WOW! Cards haven’t been going on for very long, yet there are many names on the board in the middle hallway of the high school. Many of the names are of positive students and some names are of teachers that students look up to.
