The Fair Grove Lady Eagles Varsity Volleyball team became state champions following their match in the state finals against Herman on November 4.
The volleyball team recently finished a successful season crowning themselves as state champions. According to Hannah Maxwell (12) she said that there were a lot of steps for them to make it to state. They needed to focus on the season instead of the postseason. Their goals were to win districts and every game after that. Their team motto was grit and grace and when they got down a teammate would bring that up.
When Maxwell was asked about her goals she stated, “I think for sure I have achieved my goals for this season. My biggest goal was to be the best leader for this team as well as a person each of the girls can look up too. One of the biggest goals was to win the state and we have done that.”
Tonya Peck, the counselor and head coach of the volleyball team at Fair Grove, explained, “Our starting 7 have been absolutely fantastic this season but it also takes all the others to help them get there. We have had so many step up in practice and push the 7 to be better. Those 7 are seniors Hannah Maxwell, Faith Klindworth, Allison Findley. Juniors Brooke Daniels, Shea Skouby, Abbey Green, Ashton Bell. Others that dressed varsity were Emaley Stallings, Meadow Carter, Greta Arnett, Sofee Garrett, Kenna Fishback, Shayla Haddock.”
Tonya Peck added, “Our BIG goal was to be state champions and yes, we got it. We also had some smaller goals throughout the year. MLC champs was one of those small goals and we were able to accomplish that as well. The girls all set individual goals to push themselves throughout the season.”
Maxwell commented, “Next season I will not be here, because I am a senior. I have committed to Baptist Bible College to continue playing volleyball. My goals are to lead my new team to nationals and achieve great things. But for Fair Grove, I wish these girls the best luck and I know they can win it again.”
Tonya Peck commented, “We haven’t really sat down and talked about next season goals just yet. The returners have already said they would like to make another Final Four run next season. I believe that these girls coming back have the athletic ability and the state of mind to make that a reality.”
The varsity as well as the junior varsity teams concluded their 2023 season with a varsity record of 35-1-2 and a junior varsity record of 20-1-1.
