Fair Grove High School hosts multiple clubs and opportunities for the students. One of those clubs being Book Club. This club allows students to read and be creative with their reading and writing.
Chanda Lemon, Fair Grove High School and Middle School’s Librarian stated, “During Book Club, the students participate in activities and games related to books such as Book Jenga, Book Bingo, Book Art, etc.”
Amber Clemens (12) stated, “Book Club is basically a club for students at Fair Grove who either like books or show some interest in them.”
In Addition, Lemon stated, “Students join because they enjoy reading, spending time with their classmates and it is fun to participate in the literary games.” With all of the games and activities in the club, members have to plan and figure out what they are going to do for their next meeting and when it is going to happen.
Clemens then went on to say, “The book meetings are the last Tuesday of every month. We usually do some kind of activity based on books. This could be a scavenger hunt, a craft activity ect.”
Preston Hicks (10) stated, “Our next meeting is where you wrap books and you choose one then end up with a surprise book.”
Clemens states, “We might start reading the Gateway books. Mrs. Lemon is planning on starting a little reading group sometime in December.”
When reading a book you may get stuck trying to understand what is happening. The Book Club is also open to helping students understand the books. Along with having friends in the club it allows you to enjoy the club, and have fun with your friends. According to Clemens the members of the club are always kind and respectful to new individuals. Lemon stated, “My favorite part of Book Club is listening and learning about what our high school students are currently reading.”
Along with that Clemens said, “Overall I think the environment of Book Club is healthy. All members seem to get along well.” Not only are students allowed to have a good time, students can benefit academically by reading and learning about books. Additionally it helps some of the students with other extracurricular activities they are in.
This club allows for students to learn more about books and have a good time. There will be a meeting on January 9 that will consist of a book discussion over the Gateway Award Nominee titles.
