Hannah Bruner (12), a senior at Fair Grove, is the Cheer Captain, Vice President of National Honors Society (NHS), and Vice President of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD). She also works for Mercy as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
In her free time, Bruner can be found hanging out with her friends and family. Bruner explained, “Even when doing activities I always like to do it with a close friend or family member, whether it is cooking dinner with my dad, or going to yoga with one of my friends.”
Bruner positively affects the environments she’s in, bringing up the energy in all of her clubs. Desiree Labaw (10), who participates in Cheer with Bruner, said, “She is always very positive and encourages other people on the team to keep pushing them to do their best when they are tired and exhausted.”
Bruner travels with the cheer team, going to competitions as the Cheer Captain. Their first competition was in St. Charles, and she said, “One of my favorite memories from my extracurriculars is traveling with the team to St. Charles for regionals. The hotel was complete chaos, with 15 cheerleaders sprinting between hotel rooms and the pool.”
They got second place in Class 2 competition, qualifying for state later on, Bruner added, “It was an amazing experience, and I am so grateful I got to do it with my team.”
Cheer usually plays at all the High School Football games that are set at home. Brooklyn Mauldin (11), a fellow member of Cheer, said her favorite memories are home games with Bruner. Mauldin said, “We cheer together and she is one of the sweetest, upbeat, and amazing people I’ve ever met. She’s also an amazing leader as cheer captain and treats her cheerleading peers as her friends!”
Another favorite memory of Bruner’s was volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House with Mrs. Johnson and NHS Cabinet. Bruner explained, “I really love it when I get to do volunteer work, especially with my friends.”
Along with her clubs, she works as a CNA (certified nurse assistant) at Strafford Care Center and also works PRN at Mercy Hospital. Since working in health care with OTC, she has received BLS (basic life support) certification and her CNA degree. Sometimes, while working, she completes assignments at the nurses station while not charting or in a patient’s room. She said, “I am extremely grateful to be able to be a part of the program, as well as all the opportunities it has opened up for me.”
