Nerd Club is an open club at Fair Grove High School that allows members to bring in electronics and games to play among the students.
Ms. Englis, a science teacher at Fair Grove High school, stated, “Nerd Club is in advisory, and its is on every third Wednesday of the month.”
Multiple kids come in on every third Wednesday of the month with different games or activities they enjoy. Students may choose to play with their peers or simply enjoy the game for themselves.
Kaylee Yang (10) stated, “Nerd Club is a club where you can go and play games (board games, video games, etc.). There is a good amount of people in the club that you can meet and play with.”
Continuing on with that Englis stated, “Nerd Club is about anything nerdy, mostly video games, board games, crochet, and origami.”
Vince Adams (11) stated, “Ms. Englis brings in her husband’s gaming laptop and I play Outer Wilds.”
Not only are students able to play their games, Englis has made the environment enjoyable to be in and enjoy having fun with their friends. Furthermore, Yang stated, “ It is a very friendly environment, Ms. Englis is very welcoming.”
Yang furthermore explained, “For me, I’m content with being by myself on the days my friends can not attend. Ms. Englis likes to talk to me about a lot of things so that keeps me occupied, too.”
Adams stated, “Nerd Club is always exciting, and I always enjoy watching everyone play their games while I play mine.”
Often times students interested in gaming can have a hard time finding activities in school that relate to their interests. Yang stated, “I remember talking with the high school counselor about Esports which was something I was interested in because I love to play video games.”
Englis stated, “We have a mix of kids that come in. Some that are involved with everything and some that aren’t involved in anything that come and hang out all at the same time, and I think that is really cool.”
With Nerd Club being open to the whole student body, it allows students to express their interests in gaming and various activities.
