One of the many clubs featured at Fair Grove High School includes the art club. This club is hosted and sponsored by Stephanie Brown, the high school art teacher.
Art Club typically meets every month but as of the 2023-2024 school year they have been meeting about every other month. Brown mentioned, “Usually the projects are pretty big, so we almost need a recovery month.”
Due to the fact that Art Club is popular amongst the students at Fair Grove, Brown has opened the club only to students currently enrolled in an art class. In addition, the students in attendance must have all grades above a D and F.
During Art Club, Brown will typically always have a craft set up for students to put together and be creative. Some memorable projects done in the past include making Christmas magnets, resin projects, and Thanksgiving banners. Brown stated that students benefit from these activities because, “They get to enjoy each other’s company, have fun, and potentially experience a professional art museum.”
This school year the current members of Art Club visited an art museum for a field trip. The club vistited the Crystal Bridges Art Museum. Brown added, “I try to plan these trips every so often because they are a really neat experience for our students. They get to see art up close that they would not normally have the opportunity to.” Some famous works of art open for viewing at the museum are pieces by Van Gogh, Monet, and walking through a Frank Lyod Wright house.
School clubs often offer students the ability to learn extra skills and talents. According to Brown the purpose of Art Club is, “…to bring kids together in a looser, more fun environment and create something crafty.” Art club is a free space for Art students to relax, create, and to have a good time with their friends.
Madisyn Taylor (11), a member of Art Club, mentioned, “The people that are in Art Club are very kind and caring.” Taylor has been in art club since her freshman year and one of the projects she enjoyed most was when they made Spooky Slime.
Fair Grove High School Art Club will have their next meeting next month in March. According to Brown the next art project is still undecided but will likely express the artistic talent of the Fair Grove Art Club.
