Son + One is an event that is held once a year for all sons of the elementary school to come together with a trusted adult in their lives and bond.
This event is sponsored by Fair Grove’s P.T.O. (Parent Teacher Organization) and is an event in which many members of the community come together to participate in games and activities.
Son + One is a great way for the community to stay connected with not only their own kids, but with their kids and the friends they make at school. Ashley Lederich, co-chair of this event, said, “Having events like these are fantastic for socialization, by bringing adult members of our school community together, while having a blast with their own kids.”
Each year there is a different theme and different activities chosen for the event. This year the theme was superhero night and participants could dress up as a superhero or wear superhero themed clothes. There were also superhero themed games and activities for everyone to enjoy while there.
There was a 36-foot inflatable obstacle course along with a two-laned scooter race station that could both be found in the upper elementary gym. In the library, members of the event could find eight tables of Legos, activity sheets and coloring sheets, as well as superhero themed cartoons.
She continued by saying, “These kids get to have fun with other kids that they may not get to see during school hours.”
More than 80 members of the community came together to participate in this event. Cayse Overstreet who attended with her two sons, explained her favorite part of the event, “My favorite part was getting my butt kicked by my seven-year-old as I tried to squeeze through the inflatable racing him!”
