Lyndsey Choate has taken Brandy Cantwell’s place as the High School and Middle School nurse for the Fair Grove school district.
Choate attended nursing school at Cox College in Springfield, originally to become a nutritionist; however, nursing had way more job opportunities overall, according to Mrs. Choate.
Christian Overstreet, principal of the Fair Grove high school, explained, “Nurse Lyndsey has a heart for students and provides for people in need with care. She is very friendly and a strong communicator. She will be an outstanding addition to the HS and MS buildings!”
Choate was working as a substitute nurse at Pleasant Hope. The Pleasant Hope job gave Choate insight into what it was like to work as a nurse for when she continues her career at Fair Grove. She says, “I learned about the Fair Grove position opening up and went for it!”
Choate stated that having the same schedule as her children takes a lot of stress off of her and her family. She also has a passion for Organic Chemistry and Physiology that she discovered during college.
Cantwell does not take the decision of leaving Fair Grove lightly but she says that with a new baby she wants to spend as much time with her new baby as possible while she is little.
Cantwell said, “I have loved working at FG the past seven years and this school has become my second family. Fair Grove has amazing staff and administration that have become some of my closest friends. I’ll miss seeing them during the day.” She continued, “I’ll also miss all the students I’ve had the chance to watch grow up the past few years.”
Cantwell said, “I have met the new nurse and have had the pleasure of spending a lot of time with her her first week here to help her understand the flow of our school and help her get adjusted to her new role. She’s great and you all will love her… she brings a lot of experience as a school nurse.”
Overstreet explained, “We were looking for someone who not only meets the qualifications and criteria set forth by DESE, but also someone who had experience as a school nurse. A school nurse’s job is much different from a normal nursing position you would find in a hospital or medical office.”
Cantwell believes Choate will be a great fit in Fair Grove, and Mrs. Choate said she is excited to join the Fair Grove community.
