On March 27, 2024 Fair Grove High School offered a Career and College Exploration Day for juniors and seniors, while students are finalizing their schedules for the 2024-2025 school year.
Senior Career Exploration Day, commonly known among the seniors as Senior Skip Day, is a yearly tradition at Fair Grove. This year, Fair Grove High School Principal, Dr. Christian Overstreet, made the decision to include Juniors in the Career Exploration Day. “This opportunity allows them to plan ahead, develop a professional network, be exposed to higher education, and develop skills in the workforce. Additionally, this college and career exploration day will serve as a proactive step in empowering students to chart their college and career paths with confidence, preparing themselves for future academic and career success,” explained Dr. Overstreet.
Sophia Brumfield (11) is thrilled that Dr. Overstreet added the option for juniors to miss school hours. “I am very glad because scheduling has always been a very stressful thing for me. I will be way less stressed because they are letting us go home and I think it was a very good idea.”
All seniors had the opportunity to miss a full day of school to explore possible colleges, careers, and to just enjoy the day off. Juniors will come to the first part of the school day to finalize their senior year schedule. After they finished, they were welcome to leave to explore, experience, and enjoy their day off campus.
Many seniors are looking forward to Career Exploration Day. Moreover, Liam Draper (12) said, “My plan for Career Exploration Day is to go out to breakfast with some friends and then study the art of professional bowling at enterprise lanes.”
While juniors and seniors were exploring colleges and careers, Upcoming freshman, sophomores, and juniors were finding the perfect schedule for them. Students were called out by grade to discuss and decide their next year’s schedule.
Many students worry if they will get the classes that they want and need. High School Guidance Counselor, Tonya Peck, said, “We have worked hard to make sure that all students are able to schedule the classes that they need. We do ask that students are flexible in the hours in which those classes are taken and also in their elective choices. As long as a student went into scheduling with an open and flexible attitude, there are little to no issues.”
Career and College Exploration Day gave students, teachers, and staff the opportunity to sit back and plan for the 2024-2025 school year.
