Fair Grove High School provides a food class that teaches students kitchen safety, basics of cooking and food preparation as well as working together to produce food.
Darci Friberg is the high school food class teacher. Friberg said, “I am starting a new Foods class called World Foods. This class will allow students more opportunities in the kitchen lab and time to explore cuisine from other countries.”
Friberg stated that she had been teaching the food class for a total of 14 years. The class is only a semester long, and takes up the second half of the year.
Friberg said, “This will be a student-led class where students will research and present on cuisines from around the world. Students will prepare recipes related to the countries that they choose.”
The students in the current Foods class have done various cooking activities. They have learned different skills that would help them in cooking in the kitchen including food preparation, safety in a kitchen and teamwork amongst their peers.
Food class is provided to any student in the high school from 9th to 12th grade. It is offered during the upcoming school year, 2024-2025, during the 6th hour of the day.
